Top Ten Horror Movies 2009

One more year is passing by. So many movies have been produced during 2009. Some of them are good and some are not so well. Here are the list of good horror movies during 2009. If you missed the movie, you may want to find the DVD and watching it at home.

1. Saw VI
My favorite movie is back. This sequel is much better then the previous two. This time, the sequel is directed Kevin Greutert. Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw’s legacy. Detective Hoffman is planning to carry the final scheme from Jigsaw, but he doesn’t know that Jigsaw has a grand final scheme.

Cast:
Tobin Bell as Jigsaw
Costas Mandylor as Mark Hoffman
Mark Rolston as Dan Erickson

Director: Kevin Greutert

2. The Twilight Saga: New Moon
After Bella recovers from the vampire attack that almost claimed her life, she looks to celebrate her birthday with Edward and his family. However, a minor accident during the festivities results in Bella’s blood being shed, a sight that proves too intense for the Cullens. He decides to leave the town. Initially heartbroken, Bella finds a form of comfort in reckless living, as well as an even-closer friendship with Jacob Black. Danger in different forms awaits.

Cast:
Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan
Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black
Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen

Director: Chris Weitz

3. Drag Me To Hell
Christine Brown is responsible for loans in a bank and expects to be promoted to the open position of assistant manager after dealing a big contract. One day, she denies the loan of a gypsy’s woman to prove her boss that she can take tough decisions. She finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse after she rejected the Gypsy’s woman, which turns her life into a living hell. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point. Thismovie is written and directed by Sam Raimi, not a new name in horror. He has produced The Grudge and 30 days of night.

Cast:
Alison Lohman as Christine Brown
Justin Long as Clay Dalton
Lorna Raver as Sylvia Ganush

Director: Sam Raimi

4. Orphan
Kate and John Coleman are rebuilding their marriage after a troubled relationship. Kate had drinking problem but is under therapy with Dr. Browning and has been sober for one year. They decide to adopt a child and when they meet the nine year-old Russian girl Esther, they immediately fall in love for the well-educated orphan. Sooner Kate feels that Esther is manipulative and has some disturbance and she believes it could be hormone or borderline personality disorder but John refuses to listen to his wife and the wounds in their marriage reopen. When Kate goes further in the investigation of the past of Esther, she discovers that the girl is not who she tells she is. I would say this is a good horrormovie, very intense and surprising ending.

Cast:
Vera Farmiga as Kate Coleman
Peter Sarsgaard as John Coleman
Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra

5. Pandorum
A pair of crew members is aboard a spaceship wake up with no knowledge of their mission or their identities. Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. Its pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can’t remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? They just realize they are not alone. Slowly the spacecraft’s shocking, deadly secrets are revealed. I would say it is more to thriller then horror and a little bit of Sci-Fi.

Cast:
Dennis Quaid as Payton
Ben Foster as Bower
Cam Gigandet as Gallo

Director: Christian Alvart

6. The Haunting in Connecticut
After a family is forced to relocate for their son’s health, they begin experiencing supernatural behavior in their new home, which turns out to be a former mortuary. While there are some questions that may not be answered, the story itself was more than satisfying. Special effects were kept to a minimum but used effectively and when needed. Acting was not Oscar worthy but good enough to make it all seem real.

Cast:
Virginia Madsen as Sara Campbell
Kyle Gallner as Matt Campbell
Elias Koteas as Reverend Popescu

Director: Peter Cornwell

7. Horsemen
A recently widowed detective still grieving over his wife’s death discovers a shocking connection between himself and the suspects in a serial killing spree linked to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This movie has a good start. It gives the audience a mystery about the killing, but unfortunately, it is not followed by the ending. However, it still can be categorized as a good horror, but not the best.

Cast:
Dennis Quaid as Aidan Breslin.
Ziyi Zhang as Kristin
Lou Taylor Pucci as Alex Breslin

Director: Jonas Ã…kerlund

8. The Final Destination in 3-D
The final destination is back. The death is back in 3D. The best effect of the movie is the accident and the killings of many people in the race track. After a teen’s premonition of a deadly race-car crash helps saves the lives of his peers, Death sets out to collect those who evaded their end. In overall, themovie is quite average. The first two series were much better then this in term of the plot and the story, but we still can consider it as goodmovie of this year because of the advance effect on the deaths.

Cast:
Bobby Campo as Nick O’Bannon
Shantel VanSanten as Lori Milligan
Nick Zano as Hunt Wynorski

Director: David R. Ellis

9. The Box
A small wooden box arrives on the doorstep of a married couple, who know that opening it will grant them a million dollars and kill someone they don’t know. If you are given to this opportunity, do you push the button? Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world. Someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity. Thismovie is more to drama with a little mystery and horror. It may not suitable for horror mania.

Cast:
Cameron Diaz as Norma Lewis
James Marsden as Arthur Lewis
Frank Langella as Arlington Steward

Director: Richard Kelly

10. Sorority Row
A group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer. After finding out a guy cheated on their sister, sorority house Theta Pi play a simple prank on him. They trick him into thinking that he has killed his girlfriend, then take him into the middle of nowhere to ‘dismember" the body, only then revealing it was a prank. However, the prank goes horribly wrong and all involved swear never to speak of it again. A year later at graduation though, they are all reminded of the past. It all ends with some twists and surprises and the obligatory fire with our surviving heroines confronting the killer.

Cast:
Teri Andrzejewski as Bra-Clad Sister
Megan Wolfley as Trampoline Sister
Marie Blanchard as Over-It Sister

Director: Stewart Hendler
